Although it does list phone numbers for its commercial headquarters and three brick-and-mortar locations, you’ll have to look elsewhere to find its customer service availability. In addition, JK Moving doesn’t indicate whether it has a 24-hour line.
Unless you’re in the greater Washington, D.C., area, you’ll be limited to long-distance moving with this provider.
JK Moving’s $250 deposits aren’t refundable, but they are consistent compared to the variance we’ve experienced while researching other movers’ deposit amounts.
JK Moving is a moving carrier rather than a broker. This means it owns its moving trucks and directly oversees your move, whereas brokers connect the work to third parties to carry out your move. Like most carriers, JK Moving charges a flat deposit fee rather than a percentage of your estimated moving cost. This is nonrefundable but holds your spot on JK Moving’s calendar for your move.
I called JK Moving and got a quote for a cross-country, three-bedroom move with valuation coverage for all transported goods. The JK Moving representative quoted me a ballpark estimate of $10,700 for the move, without packing included. With full packing services, the total would be $13,100.
However, the rep said that I would have to schedule a video call for a binding quote with a move coordinator. To me, this meant that my initial contact with the moving company was more like a call center representative than an experienced moving professional.
The call for the ballpark estimate took less than 20 minutes. You should generally expect a virtual estimate to take around an hour if you get a binding quote via video call.
